Forget the Cosmo , Serve Champagne Cocktails to the Girls

I knew that when Sex and the City the movie came out there would be a major movement once again in the direction of the Cosmo. Sure the little lemon squiggle garnish is cool but the same thing all the time? I get board easily and so do my guests who jokingly take turns saying, "Edie! Where is my Champagne cocktail?" in high pitched shrill voices. We all have a good laugh and I know that Big Edie of Gray Gardens was really on to something. When it comes down to it, Champagne cocktails are simply the best and are so good in the sweltering heat of around here. Sweet or dry, mixed with fresh orange juice for a Mimosa or rum (delish!) or rose syrup or violet liquor... well the possibilities are endless!

The Classic Mimosa
- 5 ounces of chilled Champagne
- 2 ounces freshly squeezed orange juice or try a tangerine or kumquat
- 1/4 ounce Cointreau
Add orange juice and Cointreau to a Champagne glass. Then top with Champagne. Add a lemon or orange slice to the glass as garnish. Based on recipes from one of my favorite books for entertaining the Ultimate Bar Book by Mittie Hellmich.

Start making these and you'll find yourself invited to a lot of parties for your expertise!
